Service Description

Join renowned dyer Nicole Frost of Frost Yarn for a comprehensive 3-day immersion into the world of yarn dyeing. This course is designed for both beginners and experienced artists, offering a thorough exploration of every major technique. By the end of this experience, you'll be equipped to: - Dye yarn with confidence and control - Have a deep understanding of color theory - Create stunning, custom colorways for your knitting, crocheting, or weaving projects - Match yarn to your vision for a truly personalized outcome Day 1: Learn how to dye with precision and repeatability. Make a triad of 66 unique colors from 3 primary colors, with the option to make a 12 color triad with 3 colors and a saturation study to learn the difference between a balanced and unbalanced color story. Then learn how to kettle dye, speckle, and direct application paint for forced pooling. Day 2: Learn how to translate an image into a colorway and explore additional techniques. You will create a resist dyed colorway that moves in multiple directions simultaneously, one of Nicole's signature techniques. Create a technique study on mini skeins featuring mohair, alpaca, superwash merino, non superwash merino and silk yarn. We end day 2 ombre painting pre knit blanks and stenciling artwork over the top with thickened dyes. Day 3: Use Nicole's knitting machines to create a swatch library of the different techniques and create a reference book. The dye lab will be open and Nicole will be available for student questions, troubleshooting, or to have a free day to play and paint. This workshop is created for adults and mature teens. Max 10 participants. Registration closes 5 days prior to the event. Coupons and promotions cannot be used. About the Instructor Nicole is a yarn dyer and fiber artist with almost 20 years experience creating hand dyed yarn and making magic with color. Frost Yarn was born in Nicole's father’s studio kitchen in 2008 with fisherman’s wool and food coloring. Newly sober, she latched onto yarn like a woman shipwrecked on an island. Yarn was her salvation and she went shop to shop peddling her Kool-Aid dyed, hand spun yarn. Nicole's husband Martin is her biggest fan and cheerleader, and with his support Frost Yarn grew from one woman furiously dyeing in her kitchen to working with some of the most talented fibre artists in the world and teaching dye workshops around the globe. *Next Course: Oct 4-6, 9am-5pm - Click Book Now below!*

This embroidery class was perfect!  The space is inviting and sparks creativity.  Cecilia is a skilled and effective teacher.  She provides you a cute little kit with everything you need! Incredibly grateful for Cecilia to hold the space for some therapeutic making time, community, and skills that I can take with me. Thank you, thank you!

"I have only attended the Fiber Club and Marbling Workshop so far am so inspired!! Small Space Collective is such a treasure in our town. San Clemente has been needing something like this for a long time. The two women who run this studio have an incredible vision. They are building a wonderful community of artists and crafters who can share and learn from each other."

"Small Space Collective is such a gem!! I was so happy to find a place to go do small artsy projects. I love that you don't have to sign up for multiple weeks but that you can just pick the workshops that you would like to go and it's easier with me with my schedule that varies all the time.
