Learn how to use ice and Japanese folding techniques to create stunning color and pattern effects!

110 US dollars
Small Space Art Collective

Service Description

Create magical Ice Dyed bamboo socks and a gorgeous Shibori patterned bandana while learning the basics of using non-toxic fiber reactive dyes and techniques from artist Rachael Duran of Thunder Textile. In this combo class you will learn about the magical world of ice dyeing and explore the art of shibori. We will cover how to create an ice dye set-up, working with non-toxic fiber reactive dyes and how to achieve the results you desire. Each participant will ice dye a pair of bamboo socks and a bandana. While we wait for the ice to melt we'll move onto shibori, a dyeing technique that involves twisting, tying, gathering or folding and binding fabric in a certain way before it is dyed, creating a unique pattern that results from only allowing the dye to penetrate certain portions of the fabric. Each participant will use two bandanas and a drawstring bag to dye and we will be using non-toxic indigo fiber reactive dye. Limited to 8 participants for a fun and intimate experience. Get your ticket today! Min 3 participants. We may cancel if we don't reach the minimum number of registrants. We will provide notice at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled start time. For adults and teens when accompanied by an adult. Rachael Duran is the owner/maker at thunder textile. Her interests include macrame, printmaking, marbling, and knitting but her true passion is working with dye. She’s a self taught dyer and works exclusively with natural fiber textiles. Whenever she’s not starting a new project or tackling a new craft she’s having fun with her husband and daughter.

Sam Crane,

This embroidery class was perfect!  The space is inviting and sparks creativity.  Cecilia is a skilled and effective teacher.  She provides you a cute little kit with everything you need! Incredibly grateful for Cecilia to hold the space for some therapeutic making time, community, and skills that I can take with me. Thank you, thank you!

"I have only attended the Fiber Club and Marbling Workshop so far am so inspired!! Small Space Collective is such a treasure in our town. San Clemente has been needing something like this for a long time. The two women who run this studio have an incredible vision. They are building a wonderful community of artists and crafters who can share and learn from each other."

Catherine Peet,

"Small Space Collective is such a gem!! I was so happy to find a place to go do small artsy projects. I love that you don't have to sign up for multiple weeks but that you can just pick the workshops that you would like to go and it's easier with me with my schedule that varies all the time. I am already signing up for the next fun workshop."
