In this 7.5 hour workshop you'll learn what you need to get started sewing garments on your own. This workshop is jam-packed with knowledge, but it's hands-on and you learn while you do so it's never boring! You'll go home with some cute and cozy sleep shorts you'll want to live in! All materials are provided for this workshop including fabric, thread, elastic, sewing machine, etc. Learn how to read and follow a commercial sewing pattern: - How to measure yourself to select the correct size (NOT regular sizes...) - How to read the pattern, terms to know - How to copy the pattern and make minor adjustments Learn how to select and cut fabric - Learn about garment fabrics, and how to pair with a pattern - How to cut the fabric according to the pattern - How to transfer markings from the pattern to the fabric Pre-requisite or skills required: - Intro to Sewing Workshop at Small Space OR these skills: - Basic sewing skills including how to thread a sewing machine, how to sew different seams, how to wind bobbins, how to change needles This workshop is 7.5 hours long including 30 min lunch break at around noon. Participants can bring their own lunch (cold only - no heating equipment available), or walk or drive to a nearby restaurant. Most students will be able to finish their shorts during the workshop but everyone learns at a different pace and sometimes mistakes can cause it to take longer. If unable to finish in the time allotted, you can book time to finish your shorts. This workshop is designed for age 13 and up. This is a very small semi-private group with only 5 participants. Whether you're a high school student or an adult, this class is your starting point to explore the world of painting. No prior experience is necessary! Learn the ancient Japanese technique of Tatakizome as we create unique designs on a tote bag, a drawstring pouch, a bandana, and a table runner. Flower pounding, or Tatakizome, is an ancient Japanese technique of hammering plants to create patterns on fabric. In this class we'll use flowers and plants to make unique designs on a drawstring pouch, bandana, tote bag, and a table runner. You will also learn pre and/or post steps to make your flower art last. Choose between a beautiful Halloween spider web, or a timeless honeycomb design. Tuesday Nights, 6pm-8pm Sep 24-Oct 15 All tools and materials included Session 1: Tools & Glass Basics - Safety first! We'll get you comfortable with the tools and then dive into choosing the perfect glass colors for your spider web design. Practice cutting on scrap glass to master curves and straight lines. Session 2: Cutting & Grinding Like a Pro - Sharpen your skills as we continue cutting glass and learn grinding techniques. You might even start foiling some pieces! Session 3: Foiling Frenzy! - Cutting, grinding, and foiling will be the name of the game this week.
