August 25 1-4pm About the Artist: Doris Weinbaum has been involved with beads, both as a businesswoman and an artist/teacher since 1993. In that year Doris opened a retail bead shop in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. While owning and managing the shop, Doris began learning beading techniques and jewelry design from instructors in her store, books and customers. Given her breadth of experience with many other hand-crafts, including sewing, knitting and crocheting, Doris' talent for beading blossomed. Doris has had one of her original designs published and has taught a wide range of beading techniques to children and adults. As a former home economics teacher, Doris most enjoys watching where individual creativity will take her students. Doris believes there are no limits to the artistic uses for beads, especially when combined with knowledge of beadwork techniques and tools. In January 2008, Doris and her husband Mike relocated to San Clemente, California for a career change for Mike and a lifestyle change for both. Doris sold her bead shop in 2012 and it is now in the daily care of her former store manager. Doris is enjoying spreading her knowledge and love of beadwork to the community of artists in Southern California. Doris is a regular teacher for the Bead Society of Orange County. Doris’ jewelry creations can be found at the San Clemente Art Gallery and Tyger Lotus Boutique, both located in downtown San Clemente. Doris is looking forward to being with a new community of artists while teaching at Small Space Art Collective!
