  • Book Binding

    A book serves as a unique vessel to hold ideas, dreams, and reflections written, drawn, and saved. In this workshop, join Kristianne Riddle as you create a small hardcover, cloth-bound, Coptic book that lays flat when opened -- perfect to use as a photo album, sketchbook, or notebook. Expand your understanding of the bookbinding process, learn an easy multiple-signature binding technique, and walk away with a carefully crafted bound object ready to accept your artistry or give as a gift. All materials for creating the book will be provided (paper, cloth, glue, thread). If you've taken a bookbinding class before, bring your awl + bone folder! (We will have extras for you to borrow if needed). Have a marbled or decorative paper you’d like to use? Wondering what to do with that cotton fabric you’ve been saving? Bring it along to incorporate into the cover. The fabric patterns being provided for cloth cover options were designed by Kristianne using her own dreamy photographs. About the Teacher Kristianne is a lens-based artist captivated by photography, sculpture, and book art. Common themes in her work include personal narrative and the intersection between environment and motherhood. She graduated BFA in Photography from CSULB. Since then, she has been a professor at CSUF, held photography workshops, received recognition from Luerzer’s Archive Magazine, Communication Arts Magazine. and was a Critical Mass finalist. Her work has been exhibited around the United States in solo and group shows and she works with corporate clients creating work for advertising campaigns. When she's not in her studio or on assignment, she is exploring the California coast by sailboat with her husband and teenage children. Kristianne and her family are currently refitting a 46’ Kelly Peterson sailboat to sail to the Sea of Cortez and beyond. Balancing her thirst for adventure, freedom, and spontaneity while settling down to raise a family has heavily influenced her work. She is currently nestled into her hometown, for now, to be with family.

  • Mala Beads & Meditation

    Crafted with intention these beads will serve as a tool for meditation, mindfulness, and manifestation. A simplified version of traditional Mala, these are elastic and can be comfortably worn wrapped around the wrist. This workshop is designed to guide you through the process of creating your own Mala inspired beads while infusing them with your intentions and aspirations. These beads are designed without the knots of traditional Mala Beads, and with an elastic cord which makes them easier to create and more comfortable to wear wrapped around the wrist. We begin with an introduction to the significance and traditional use of mala beads, as well as tips and suggestions for how they can be used less traditionally. We then explore the meanings of the stones used in this workshop, which are moss agate, dalmatian jasper, and Amazonite. These stones are known facilitate new beginnings, grounding, clarity, and inner strength. Before we begin making our beads, we are guided through a visualization meditional which serves as a tool for centering ourselves and envisioning our dreams and aspirations. Following the meditation we take a few moments to write down our intentions on the keepsake card provided. Under the guidance of your instructor, you'll be led step by step in creating your beads. No prior experience is necessary. As you string each bead, you'll infuse it with your intentions, embedding your personal energy into the beads. To conclude our gathering, we engage in a brief breathing exercise, bringing the sense of closure and unity to the workshop experience. As a memento of your journey, you'll receive a fabric pouch to protect and carry your beads and your keepsake card, a tangible reminder of your intentions and the meanings behind the stones.   • Linocut Printmaking

    Learn the art of Linocut! Linocut is a type of relief print created by carving a design into a printing block. It is the uncut surface that gives you an image when rolled with ink. The inked block is printed one at a time with an etching press. So many things can be printed such as cards, tea towels, t-shirts, and beautiful papers to create unique pieces of art. This class is an ongoing class that explores all the various techniques used in linocut printmaking. The process is really fun and can be used to create multiple images of the same print. You can also make one of kind images by embellishing your print and by painting on it. The possibilities for exploration are endless! The class is open to everyone from beginners to people who have practiced printmaking. Class size limited to 5.   • Mixed Media Art Class

    In this class we will explore a variety of materials to create pieces to hang on the wall. We will learn the process of painting, drawing, collage and printmaking and how these processes can be combined to create one of a kind pieces. The class meets twice a month every other Wednesday from 9:00am-11:00. Cost $170 a month includes materials with exception of special papers.   • Zipper Pouch Sewing Workshop

    In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to sew a simple and stylish flat-bottom zipper pouch—perfect for storing small treasures. You’ll also discover how to customize your pouch with different sizes, fabrics, and unique touches. We'll discuss adding pockets, wrist straps, and other personal details you can incorporate into future projects. We have a variety of new and re-used fabrics to choose from, as well as zippers in a few colors. Feel free to bring your own, but send us a note to make sure you have the right materials. Whether you’re looking to keep it simple or explore new ideas, this workshop will help you build sewing confidence while having fun. Take your time, ask questions, and leave with a beautiful, personalized pouch to call your own! We have machines to borrow, but you're welcome to bring your own machine that you know how to use. Please let us know if you're bringing your own machine, and arrive 10 min early to set it up. This workshop is suited for beginners who know sewing basics.     Intro to Yarn Dyeing: Speckling Part 2 of our 3-Part Yarn Dyeing Series Take your yarn dyeing skills to the next level with speckle dyeing! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to create unique, modern speckled effects using acid dyes. Experiment with color placement, layering, and intensity to achieve a range of looks—from delicate sprinkles to bold bursts of color. Each participant will go home with two hand-dyed skeins of fingering weight superwash merino wool, perfect for adding a one-of-a-kind touch to your next project. This workshop builds on concepts from our Intro to Yarn Dyeing: Solid Kettle Dye class, but you’re welcome to join even if you haven't taken the first session, as long as you have a basic understanding of acid dyes. Frost Yarn was born in Nicole's father’s studio kitchen in 2008 with fisherman’s wool and food coloring. Newly sober, she latched onto yarn like a woman shipwrecked on an island. Yarn was her salvation and she went shop to shop peddling her Kool-Aid dyed, hand spun yarn. Nicole's husband Martin is her biggest fan and cheerleader, and with his support Frost Yarn grew from one woman furiously dyeing in her kitchen to working with some of the most talented fibre artists in the world and teaching dye workshops around the globe.
