  • Book Binding

    A book serves as a unique vessel to hold ideas, dreams, and reflections written, drawn, and saved. In this workshop, join Kristianne Riddle as you create a small hardcover, cloth-bound, Coptic book that lays flat when opened -- perfect to use as a photo album, sketchbook, or notebook. Expand your understanding of the bookbinding process, learn an easy multiple-signature binding technique, and walk away with a carefully crafted bound object ready to accept your artistry or give as a gift. All materials for creating the book will be provided (paper, cloth, glue, thread). If you've taken a bookbinding class before, bring your awl + bone folder! (We will have extras for you to borrow if needed). Have a marbled or decorative paper you’d like to use? Wondering what to do with that cotton fabric you’ve been saving? Bring it along to incorporate into the cover. The fabric patterns being provided for cloth cover options were designed by Kristianne using her own dreamy photographs. About the Teacher Kristianne is a lens-based artist captivated by photography, sculpture, and book art. Common themes in her work include personal narrative and the intersection between environment and motherhood. She graduated BFA in Photography from CSULB. Since then, she has been a professor at CSUF, held photography workshops, received recognition from Luerzer’s Archive Magazine, Communication Arts Magazine. and was a Critical Mass finalist. Her work has been exhibited around the United States in solo and group shows and she works with corporate clients creating work for advertising campaigns. When she's not in her studio or on assignment, she is exploring the California coast by sailboat with her husband and teenage children. Kristianne and her family are currently refitting a 46’ Kelly Peterson sailboat to sail to the Sea of Cortez and beyond. Balancing her thirst for adventure, freedom, and spontaneity while settling down to raise a family has heavily influenced her work. She is currently nestled into her hometown, for now, to be with family.

  • Learn to Knit 2 - The Beach Tank Top

    Join us for a fun and laid-back knitting course where you’ll create "The Beach Tank" by Jess Scheibstein. This versatile, boxy fit top is perfect for warm weather or as a stylish layering piece year-round. You’ll have the option to customize the length of your tank to create a cropped look or a longer fit, making it your own. We’ll be knitting with cool, comfortable cotton/merino wool blend, perfect for the summer. The course includes the pattern and all materials needed to complete your project. Come knit with us and create a wardrobe staple you'll love!     In this 3-hour workshop, you'll learn the basic techniques of Sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching method known for its geometric patterns and use in repairing and reinforcing textiles. What you'll learn: The history and philosophy of Sashiko Sashiko materials and tools Essential Sashiko stitches Simple geometric Sashiko patterns Techniques for mending and patching clothes with Sashiko What you'll make: A Sashiko patch with your chosen pattern, perfect for use as a decorative patch (Optional) You can also bring a piece of clothing to mend or embellish directly during the workshop!   • Mala Beads & Meditation

    Crafted with intention these beads will serve as a tool for meditation, mindfulness, and manifestation. A simplified version of traditional Mala, these are elastic and can be comfortably worn wrapped around the wrist. This workshop is designed to guide you through the process of creating your own Mala inspired beads while infusing them with your intentions and aspirations. These beads are designed without the knots of traditional Mala Beads, and with an elastic cord which makes them easier to create and more comfortable to wear wrapped around the wrist. We begin with an introduction to the significance and traditional use of mala beads, as well as tips and suggestions for how they can be used less traditionally. We then explore the meanings of the stones used in this workshop, which are moss agate, dalmatian jasper, and Amazonite. These stones are known facilitate new beginnings, grounding, clarity, and inner strength. Before we begin making our beads, we are guided through a visualization meditional which serves as a tool for centering ourselves and envisioning our dreams and aspirations. Following the meditation we take a few moments to write down our intentions on the keepsake card provided. Under the guidance of your instructor, you'll be led step by step in creating your beads. No prior experience is necessary. As you string each bead, you'll infuse it with your intentions, embedding your personal energy into the beads. To conclude our gathering, we engage in a brief breathing exercise, bringing the sense of closure and unity to the workshop experience. As a memento of your journey, you'll receive a fabric pouch to protect and carry your beads and your keepsake card, a tangible reminder of your intentions and the meanings behind the stones.   • Intermediate Embroidery I

    This series is for those who have mastered basic embroidery and want to expand their skills. You'll learn intermediate and advanced stitches like raised stitches, chain stitch variations, french knots, and blanket stitch, while exploring how to combine them for complex, beautiful patterns. We’ll also discuss how to apply these new techniques to real projects. This class is the first session in a two-part series. Each class is independent and booked separately. Participants can book both or either one, however we recommend signing up for both! The stitches covered will be different in each class, but are of similar complexity. Stitches learned include: Session 1: attached fly, ribbed web, couched filling 1, compact chain, woven picot Session 2: leaf, woven spider web, couched filling 2, wheatear, bullion knot. Materials: Fabric and some threads are provided. We have hoops, needles, threaders, and scissors to borrow during the session, but if you have your own preferred tools you're welcome to bring them.
