About the event
Learn to create gorgeous, unique embroidery in this introductory class. Embroidery is beginner-friendly and is one of the easiest crafts to learn.Â
This course meets every Thursday night 5-6:30pm for four weeks starting January 4th, 2024.
Students receive a Starter Kit with the basic tools and materials needed for the class projects and beyond, plus a cute project bag for easy storage and crafting on the go. We will learn embroidery from scratch, from the basic stitches, to some not-so-basic. We'll learn how to use the tools, plus tips and tricks to make it fun and easy. You will walk away with the skills to tackle intermediate-level projects, samplers to use for reference in your future projects, and a project where you have applied your new skills!
In the first three classes we will learn the basics of the tools and the stitches. We will create a "sampler" (fabric with printed stitch templates) that will serve as a learning tool, but also reference and inspiration for future projects. At the end of the third class we will pick a project and start working on it. In the last class we finish up the project and learn how to finish it. For the Design Project students can choose to make a patch, a hoop art project, upcycled apparel or accessories (bring your own piece of clothing), or other ideas we dream up! We will have a variety of materials available, books, and finished pieces for inspiration.Â
The included Embroidery Starter Kit includes:
- 2 wood embroidery hoops (1 for Sampler, one for Project)
- 3 pre-printed sampler fabric squares (Lines, Fills, Decorative)
- 1 blank fabric square (for extra room to play! :))
- 2 high quality embroidery needles - 1 chenille and 1 hypoallergenic non-glare
- 5 skeins of embroidery thread
- Embroidery scissors
- Project bag
Most materials for the Design Project will be available at no extra cost, but for custom designs and projects there may be extra costs.Â

"I have only attended the Fiber Club and Marbling Workshop so far am so inspired!! Small Space Collective is such a treasure in our town. San Clemente has been needing something like this for a long time. The two women who run this studio have an incredible vision. They are building a wonderful community of artists and crafters who can share and learn from each other."

"Small Space Collective is such a gem!! I was so happy to find a place to go do small artsy projects. I love that you don't have to sign up for multiple weeks but that you can just pick the workshops that you would like to go and it's easier with me with my schedule that varies all the time. I am already signing up for the next fun workshop."
